What's
the Weather Like in Your Practice?
Foggy
and Rainy? Cold and Snowy? Stormy and Overcast? Bright
and Sunny? Just like the weather, your practice
has it's own "climate." Your practice
climate is how people feel about working in your clinic.
Work place climate accounts for 20 to 30 percent of
your business performance.
Okay,
that's great, you say...but how can I improve the way
people feel about working for me? It gets better. 50
to 70 percent of how people feel about working for you
can be traced to the actions of the leader—you.
Want
to improve the climate of your practice? It
starts by understanding what staff need from a leader.
The more emotionally demanding the work, the more empathic
and supportive the leader needs to be.
Is
veterinary practice emotional demanding? You bet! So,
rather than distancing yourself from the emotional demands
of veterinary practice, you can increase your leadership
skills and improve your business by... being more empathic
and supportive. You'll feel better and you'll enjoy
coming to work in a practice that's got a bright, sunny
climate—just the place pet owners want to visit.
